Flow offers you the opportunity to experience the two adventure sports of
mountain biking and kayaking together in one amazing place. The mountains
and lake close to the Arenal Volcano offer the perfect place to pedal and
paddle in unique environments resulting in an extraordinary adventure.
This tour begins at your hotel where our bilingual, professional, naturalist
guide will pick you up and take you less than 10 minutes to where the bike
tour begins. There you will be fully equipped with your bike, helmet and
other necessary tools while the guide ensures you are comfortable with the
operation of your bike. After a safety orientation and peddle practice you are
off for 16 kilometers of nonstop fun. The trails resemble a roller coaster
going up and down giving advanced riders the challenge they seek and
beginners a thrill they will love. The trails, which run along the Arenal lake
and give you views of the famous Arenal volcano are surrounded by lush
rainforest settings, small rivers and quaint Costa Rican “pueblos”.
When you arrive at the Cano Negro River everyone can jump in for a
refreshing swim or merely observe the others cooling down. There will be
water and fresh fruit for everyone to replenish their bodies and time to rest
for a while. From here your guides will change your bikes for kayaks,
proceeding with a safety orientation and paddle practice. When ready, you
will embark on a 6 kilometer paddle around an island and in the open waters
of the Arenal Lake. You will be kayaking for two hours during which you will
have the opportunity to visit an island, see local birds which include ospreys,
kingfishers, neotropical cormorants and aningas and see mammals such as
howler monkeys, spider monkeys, white nosed coatis and sloths. Also, you
can’t miss the impressive view of the Arenal Volcano and its constant
eruptions with lava. Upon conclusion, your return trip to Fortuna is 15
minutes in a private bus.
