Our Safari Float on the Peñas Blancas River offers two new revolutionized
ways of enjoying the abundant wildlife surrounding this river. If you want to
use your hands to take pictures of the rainforest canopy teeming with
monkeys or catch a closer look at a tropical bird through your binoculars we
recommend you float with us in the oar boat where an expert naturalist will
paddle and you relax like the iguanas nearby sunning themselves on the
branches. If you are an active traveler and feel like getting your hands wet,
paddle with us in your own touring kayak while soaking in the rich wildlife of
the lowlands. Even first timers can feel confident kayaking with our
professional instruction allowing you to maximize your athletic experience
and float alone like one only dreams of in the remote setting of these tropical
havens.
The trip begins with a twenty minute drive from Fortuna to the river. Upon
arrival, each guest will have the opportunity to fill up their water bottles with
bottled water, use the restrooms and enjoy the gardens of this farm on the
river. There we will embark on our float down the Peñas Blancas of which the
duration is approximately two hours. Our naturalist guides during this time
will help point out and talk about monkeys, lizards, Iguanas, poison dark
frogs, Opossum, Brown-Throated Three Toed Sloth, Hoffmann’s Two-Toed
Sloth, Long-Nosed Bat, Mantled Howler Monkey, Yellow-crowned Night-
Heron, Spectacled Owl, American crocodile, Tucans, Parrots, Cormorants,
Anhingas, Herons, Howks, Hummingbird and many more. In addition to the
wildlife, our guests will have the opportunity to see much of Costa Rica’s
flora. At the end of the river portion of this trip guests will arrive at a local
working farm where the owner is a well know Costa Rican horse breeder and
trainer. His daughter dances traditional style while you sit down and get
ready to taste a bit of our country. His wife makes delicious typical style food
like yucca bread, homemade cheese, sweet fried plantations, and serves these
treats with our famous coffee made the old-fashion way in a special “sock”. If
you prefer juice over coffee there is something for everyone’s desires. By the
way, everything you eat at this farm comes directly from their land to your
stomachs! Upon request, horse shows are also available. The trip concludes
with a twenty minute drive back to Fortuna.
