Rio Pacuare
A trip of pure magic, unsurpassed beauty, wildlife and ravishing rapids. The quintessential tropical river, along its course laid several densely vegetated gorges, which shelter, jaguars, ocelots, monkeys, sloth’s and an incredible variety of birds. Also found within these gorges, is some of the best whitewater in the world. “at its lodge, hammock-filled, thatch-roofed huts, offering dorm and honeymoon style rooms, surround an even larger thatch-roofed lodge net to a gurgling waterfall linking the huts to the lodge’s open-walled dining room, bar and reading room are bamboo-railed boardwalks that make wearing anything but river sandals sacrilegious. Don’t get so comfortable in the reading room’s hammock; however, that you miss the cocktail-hour bell; in true jungle fashion, all apres-paddle drinks are served in coconut shells.” (paddler magazine article, jan./feb.1999, edb).
Day 1
Early morning pick up at your hotel (exact pick up time is given at the time of reservation). After a 2 ½ hour drive, due east, past several picturesque valleys we arrive at our put in point. Here our guides will help load your gear into dry bags, prepare the equipment raft and undergo a precise safety and paddle talk. This first day provides an amazing welcome to the Pacuare gorge its rapids and beauty. Depending on water levels our arrival to Rios Tropicales lodge will come as a surprise. You can spend the afternoon relaxing, hiking, soaking in waterfalls our simply wandering around camp. Our facilities, “Cabecar Indians style” bungalows, offer all the sleeping comfort you need. Enough energy is created by our own self-sufficient hydro plant. (b, l, d).
Day 2:
This day is designed to remain at camp and enjoy its beautiful surroundings. if good long rainforest hiking is what you want, our expert trail guides will plan a 5 hour hike into gracias’ Indian village. Experience the side of the Pacuare few people know! Overnight at our lodge (b,l,d).
Day 3
Don’t worry about wake up time, the beauty of the light through the forest, the sound of the toucans and the smell of coffee will get you going. After loading our gear-boats, prepare to paddle through the spectacular gorge of rio Pacuare with amazing rapids, waterfalls, bird-life, butterflies and more. Lunch is served along the river. You will never forget rapids like: upper and lower Huacas, Cimarron, dos Montañas and many more. At our private take-out bathrooms, changing rooms, cold drinks and bocas are available. Drive back to San José or continue enjoying Costa Rica’s Caribbean. (b, l).

River wear:
rubber soled shoes (tennis, tevas, booties or similar)

Paddle jacket, t-shirt sunscreen are optional.

Note: you can leave extra gear you do not need on this trip on the bus or at the hotel.
Cancellations: any change or cancellation must be made by 4:00 p.m., two days before trip departure. No refunds for no show. Partial refunds may be issued for circumstances beyond our control. Any discount or special offer must be presented before payment.
